Bl(activism)

To be black.

To take action.

To be an activist.

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of prominent events in Black History founded on the principles of activism and social justice including Howard University protests that included a multiple day takeover of the A-building and advocacy for student’s rights and freedom of speech. In honor of this, Howard University's The Hilltop will hold their inaugural Bl(activism) conference. The conference will include a screening of the film produced on the 1968 protests, a panel discussion with former students involved in the 1968, 1989 and 2018 protests, an HBCU roundtable discussion and prominent activists/advocates of social justice today. The conference will be followed by an art exhibit reception commemorating black activism, culture and the inaugural conference.

Mission:

To educate and inform on the history of resistance and social activism and to relay how the face of that has changed over the last 50 years and how social media influences and warps activism as we know it today.

Continental breakfast will be included.
